The duckwing in the Araucana comes in two varieties.  The Silver and the Golden.  In this page we will discuss the Silver Duckwing variety.

The silver duckwing rooster is a black bird with silver head and neck, shoulders, saddle, and wing bay.

The above rooster is my best silver duckwing as far as color goes.  However he does not have the tufts you associate with the araucana.  He is looking a little rough in the picture but overall is really a beautiful bird.

Now just like in the golden duckwing variety for the hens being able to tell the color differences become problematic.

Golden Pullet                                                 Silver Pullet

While neither of these pullets are show quality, I chose their photo to illustrate the difference in the two colors.  Both pullets are lacking tufts, and both have shafting in their feathers ( white line down the center of each feather)  But you can see that one pullet is more grey and one is more brown.

Here we see a 3 month old silver duckwing pullet. She is overall very very grey.  Unfortunately I do not have an adult picture of this pullet as she died not long after this photo.

The darker chick is your typical silver duckwing chick coloration.
